Medici Enterprise Training
Medici is a flagship training programme for university academics taking their first steps into commercialising their research. Funded places are now available for researchers from the 16 universities in the Forging Ahead partnership.
Who is Medici for?
Medici is open to researchers who are considering commercialisation through any business model.
Arts and science disciplines are equally welcome, and delegates can be at any stage of their journey, from early consideration with no clear business offering to working on a specific and viable business idea.
What does Medici cover?
Medici provides an introduction to entrepreneurship for researchers who are at the beginning of their commercialisation journey.
Seven days of in-person training are delivered by experienced trainers and entrepreneurs. The programme outlines the key stages from having an idea to commercial readiness, and introduces areas like intellectual property, commercial strategy, selling skills, pricing, and culminates with business planning, and investment readiness.
How is Forging Ahead supporting Medici?
Developed and delivered by University of Birmingham Enterprise for the last 20 years, Medici has - since September 2025 - been expanded across the Midlands, offering more funded places to researchers from across the 16 universities.
Forging Ahead will be delivering a new Medici cohort in the autumn of 2026 with in-person sessions being held at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
This is all in aid of increasing pathways and enterprise training throughout the region, offering more opportunities for Midlands researchers to explore the potential of their research.
You can hear from members of the Forging Ahead-funded cohort (which ran from October - December 2025) below.
